Music and musicians are everywhere around you, but ironically band members are hard to find. Good band members are crucial for a successful band, so where do you look for them? How do you find the right ones who will fit all your requirements? The professionals at Tapestry Music have brought together a few helpful tips.
Ask Bandmates: If you have a few members in your band, begin your search by checking with them first. They may have friends who are a looking for a change. Look for band members in community music festivals and music groups in colleges. You are bound to find someone who is interested or knows someone who may be interested. Contact local recording studios or visit rehearsal spaces. Be as specific as you can about your requirements. You will want someone who shares your vision and music interests.
Post an Ad in Music Shops: This is probably the easiest way. A music shop selling instruments or music-related items is bound to attract musicians. Ask permission to post advertisements seeking band members on the bulletin board. Include a few details about your own band when you do so. Mention any award or recognition they may have received, who your band members are and what kind of music you play in a few brief lines, with an attractive picture if possible. Visuals attract eyes more than a page full of heavy text. Check with the staff at the stores if they know anyone. Request them to spread the word.
Browse on the Internet: Post an ad on Craiglist stating the purpose of your search clearly in minimal words. Post on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and any other social media channels where you may find them. Ask your friends to share the posts, so word gets out. Visit online music forums or post on your website and send out links.
Put up Posters: Advertising need not be expensive. All you need is a bit more imagination and intent to prepare and post attractive posters all over town. Stick them up (with permission) in bookshops, college campuses, clubs, coffee shops, neighbourhood stores and community centres. The more you get out the word, the higher are your chances to find just the right fit for your band. When you meet anyone, be clear about what you expect, your band related expenses such as travelling for shows and how the payment is divided. You need to be transparent yourself if you wish to find someone honest and reliable.
